Why are bike lights important?

Bike lights are essential for visibility and safety. They help you see the road ahead in low-light conditions and ensure that other road users can see you, reducing the risk of accidents.

Do I need both front and rear bike lights?

Yes. A front light helps you illuminate your path, while a rear light makes you visible to vehicles approaching from behind. Using both ensures all-round safety.

Are bike lights required by law in Ireland and the UK?

Yes. In both Ireland and the UK, cyclists are legally required to use front white and rear red lights when riding after dark.

What type of bike lights are best for night riding?

For night riding, powerful LED headlights with high lumen output are recommended. Pairing them with a bright rear taillight ensures maximum visibility and safety.

How long do rechargeable bike lights last?

Most USB-rechargeable bike lights offer 4–12 hours of runtime depending on brightness settings. Many models include multiple modes like steady, flashing, or eco mode to extend battery life.

Can I use bike lights in rainy weather?

Yes, many modern bike lights are water-resistant or waterproof, making them suitable for use in all weather conditions, including heavy rain.

How do I mount bike lights on my bicycle?

Most bike lights come with tool-free mounting systems such as silicone straps or quick-release brackets, allowing you to attach and remove them easily.

What brightness (lumens) should I choose for bike lights?

For city commuting, 100–300 lumens is usually enough. For rural or unlit areas, 500–1000 lumens or higher is recommended for clear visibility.

The placement of the light

I went to work and hit a pot hole on a back road broke the light and fell of it because the light bent and burned off the wheel everything else is fine but my light is now broke and the electrical panel is visible because the plastic film on the front light fell off

Hi Kyle,

Thanks for sharing your experience. We’re sorry the light was damaged after hitting a pothole and that the panel film came off. We’re glad everything else is fine, but understand this is frustrating. Please contact us at support@pogocycles.com for further assistance.
